ECVS residency programme
Fitzpatrick Referrals’ three-year ECVS residency programme involves balanced rotations between two hospitals, both world-renowned with high case-loads of both routine and complex cases and first-class facilities.
The successful applicants will be trained by and work alongside ECVS, ACVS, ECVN, ECVIM, ECVAA, ECVSMR, ACVSMR and RCVS Diplomates. You will partake in the small animal surgery referral service, including contributing to the out-of-hours emergency service.
Residency candidate criteria
- Eligible to be a member of The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
- Applicants must have completed at least one rotating internship or equivalent
- Clinical experience in first-opinion practice is highly desirable
- Excellent command of the English language is necessary
- Focus, determination and a passion for surgery
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong references
State-of-the-art facilities
Fitzpatrick Referrals offers modern surgical suites with advanced equipment for orthopaedic and neurological surgery. These are supported by digital radiography and advanced imaging suites with CT and MRI scanners.
Full-featured anaesthetic monitoring equipment including ECG, pulse oximetry, non-invasive blood pressure, and capnography complement the surgical theatres. A state-of-the-art kinetic and kinematic laboratory allows objective pre and postoperative gait analysis.
Physical rehabilitation facilities include a dedicated physiotherapy area and large hydrotherapy centre with a swimming pool and underwater treadmill. An in-house diagnostic laboratory and advanced therapeutics are also available to further increase the quality of care to our patients.
How and when to apply
Every year, we typically open applications for two residency positions around November/December time, with interviews taking place in February/March and a June/July start date.
Our residencies will be advertised on our careers page when applications are open, however, we also welcome applicants to get in touch all year round.
