Gunner’s bilateral pelvic limb lameness

Meet Gunner, a gorgeous 11-month-old English springer spaniel from Devon, who was referred for further investigations into his bilateral pelvic limb lameness.

Gunner underwent a thorough examination and investigations at Fitzpatrick Referrals under our orthopaedic service, which included radiographs, a Tekscan pressure mat analysis, and a CT scan, following which Senior Clinician Jan Janovec diagnosed Gunner with bilateral hip dysplasia.

Our ultra-fast 160-slice CT scanner acquires thousands of cross-sectional high-resolution images in submillimetric detail with an outstanding level of image quality and clarity, enabling our surgeons to assess a patient’s suitability for a procedure and also aid precise surgical planning.

Gunner’s severe hip laxity unfortunately put him at high risk of developing hip osteoarthritis; however, as a young dog with currently no secondary osteoarthritis, his family opted for him to have a bilateral double pelvic osteotomy (DPO) procedure.

Recovery

Young Gunner is a shy, sensitive boy but soon put his faith in our veterinary care assistants, pictured supporting him on his short comfort walks. He also had daily physiotherapy sessions to help improve his stability during his stay with us.

Fortunately for Gunner, his mum is a registered veterinary nurse and caught his issues early. Wishing Gunner a good recovery and we look forward to seeing him back for his recheck.
