Broken Neck on New Years Eve
This five-year-old Lurcher had injured her neck whilst out walking with her owners. Her primary care vets took some radiographs of the patients neck and diagnosed a suspected fracture of one of the bones in her cervical spine. The patient was referred to us on New Year’s Eve for emergency imaging of her neck. A CT scans performed here confirmed fracture and misalignment of the first two cervical vertebrae in the patients neck. The patient underwent emergency surgery to reconstruct the fractured vertebrae and to correct the misalignment within her neck. After a successful operation, she spent a couple of nights with us to allow her time to recover before being reunited with her family. Six weeks later we saw her for a recheck and were happy to see that she was making a good recovery.
